This week begins the start of Police Week 2021. Police week is when Law Enforcement Officers across the country, gather together at the Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C. to remember and honor those Police Officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the course of their duties.
The Berlin Police Department, annually celebrates the life of those Police Officers, by reaching out to the children in our community. Traditionally, the Berlin Police Department attends the Berlin Community School and Our Lady of Mount Carmel School each day of the week to show the students some of our gear, and specialty units.
Students look forward to meeting us and seeing what we brought to show them each day! However, this all changed in 2020 with the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the first time the Berlin Police Department had to cancel a Police Week that was planned, and we did not want to make that decision again.
For 2021, the Berlin Police Department worked with Covered Sun Films who volunteered their time, equipment and staff to produce a virtual Police Week for our students. This was done due to restrictions that are still in place, keeping large groups of people to a minimum and social distancing guidelines.
Durning the course of the week, students will get to see our K9 Unit, some of our patrol equipment and station, our bicycle unit and tips about bike safety as well as equipment presententation by the Lower Camden County Regional Special Response Team (LCCSRT).
We hope our students enjoy these videos and have some fun! We want to thank Covered Sun Films for working with us and ultimately making this possible! A special thanks to the members of the LCCSRT for volunteering their time and equipment to show our students, as they have done every year.
